Urgent skin cancer concerns
If you are worried you have a dangerous skin cancer, and have been advised that it will be a long wait until you are seen at any given hospital, please contact my secretaries Sarah and Jo so that we can see what can be arranged. Do be aware that the NHS does offer a rapid urgent cancer pathway whereby lesions that your GP are worried about can be referred quickly into your local dermatology department.
Arranging biopsies
After recommending a biopsy or procedure to a patient I typically fill in a form that details the procedure code, the estimated charge I will invoice (worked out for self-funders - do clarify the cost with the relevant insurance provider if needed. This does NOT include hospital or histology fees which need to be quoted by the hospital where the procedure is taking place) and the duration of the procedure.
Ideally patients arrange biopsies at the clinic where I have seen them for the first time. If, however, this is impractical for any reason (a long wait, or other logistical considerations) you are welcome to arrange such procedures at another of the locations where I work. Please, under such circumstances, contact the relevant hospital/clinic/secretary as above. Sarah/Jo can sometimes arrange additional biopsies but this needs to be arranged on a case-by-case basis.
Whenever arranging a biopsy appointment please emphasise the duration I have stated on the form I provide, in order to allow enough time to complete the procedure(s).
