Insurance providers

I work with all major insurance providers, except Bupa - I am no longer taking new Bupa patients as of Summer 2022, and Bupa will not pay for any work by myself for their members from October 2024.

Decision to no longer work with Bupa

Initially this was in protest at the insistence of Bupa of not negotiating my fees, and their continued willingness to pay older doctors more money because those of us like me, who happened to sign up later (because we were born more recently and therefore became consultants later) commit to not receiving top-ups and accepting a reduced fee (inspite of a decision to not raise the fees in line with inflation for many years).
Recently (2024) Bupa have agreed to increase my fees, but my rates have gone up since 2022 and I no longer feel it’s financially in my best interests to see their patients, as they still pay less than most other insurers, and my clinic lists risk being filled with Bupa patients if I am recognised by them. I was willing to keep seeing the odd patient under particular circumstances (e.g. referred by a colleague for Mohs or skin cancer/skin surgery) but this was not acceptable to Bupa.

If you are with Bupa, and they agreed to cover a procedure, scheduled before 2nd October 2024, do check with them, but my expectation is that this should be fine. If they said they would cover a procedure in or after this, please cancel the procedure. Do get in touch if you wish and I can recommend an alternative provider, though you would have to check my recommendation with Bupa as well.

OTHER INSURERS

I am recognised by all other major insurers.

Do check that your insurance provider is willing to cover the fees of any particular procedure at the hospital/clinic where you intend to have this done.
